April Newsletter
Curriculum
Math: Mr. Barnes is using the Envision Math Program
as well as the Aleks Math program to teach math topics. Students are also
working on becoming Math Fact All Stars! In addition, the Math Skill Test is
given periodically to check for student growth.
Spelling/Vocabulary: Spelling and vocabulary
lists will be given for each FULL week this month. Spelling Tests will usually
be every Friday. We will correct ALL spelling work in class on Friday, so
students need to be prepared with the assignment done! Students have access to their spelling lists
located in the SCHOOL TO HOME section on their Wonders Web site (connect ed)!
They need to be STUDYING THE WORDS BEFORE FRIDAY TESTS!
Reading:
We will be
reading the basal and working on fluency, comprehension, and text analysis. Remember
that each Wednesday is BASAL HOMEWORK NIGHT! Students need to bring their basal/Chrome
Book home to reread the story. Make sure your student is doing 20 min of
reading Sun-Thurs with a parent signature on their planner sheet.
*Each
week, students who complete their reading with 5 parent signatures, turned in
ON TIME, will receive 1 Read to Ride ticket for the end of the year bike
drawing.
Writing: We will practice the
writing process, the six +1 traits of writing, and language arts will be
integrated into this subject. We will practice the Four Square Method of
organizing writing. This month we are reviewing the three types of writing we
have learned throughout this year: expository, argumentative, and narrative.
Language
Arts: We
will be using the online program IXL to practice Language Arts Skills. Students
will receive certificates for completing and mastering language arts concepts
using this program.
Science
And Social Studies:
Mr. Barnes will be teaching science topics and Mrs. George will be teaching
Social Studies. The focus for Social studies this month is Ancient Rome and the
Renaissance.
Announcements
* Students
are expected to earn 60 AR points
throughout the course of this year. To
meet this goal, students must read a total of 15 points per term!
*There
will be a Miss Beaver Assembly on April 3 at 2:00.
*There
will be a Music Assembly on April 4 at 10:30.
*The
Kindergarten Play will be March 7 at 10:30.
*The
2nd grade World Fair will be April 11 at 1:30.
*Spring
Break will be April 13, 14, 17, and 18. NO SCHOOL ON THESE DAYS!
*There
will be a Character Assembly on April 20 at 2:15.
*The
4th grade Utah History Program will be at 9:30 on April 21.
*Preschool
registration will be April 21 at 1:00.
*OUR 6TH GRADE
FIELD TRIP TO THE CLARK PLANETARIUM WILL BE APRIL 25! WE WILL LEAVE FROM THE
MES SCHOOL PARKING LOT AT 7:00A.M. THAT MORNING AND RETURN HOME AT ABOUT 6:30
THAT EVENING. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO PACK A LUNCH AND SNACKS. THERE IS ALSO A
GIFT SHOP IN THE PLANETARIUM THAT STUDENTS MAY DO SOME SHOPPING AT DURING THE
FIELD TRIP. PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS TRIP ARE TBA.
*The
Fifth Grade field trip it April 27.
*Spotlight:
Cooper B. 4/1, Gage Horton 4/18, Whytney S. 4/18, Kody W. 4/28 (I will send
home more information when it is your student’s turn to be spotlighted in
class!)
*Please
take great care in handling and charging the Chrome book each night and
remembering to bring the Chrome book in its case to school EVERY day!

will be an In-School Dentist coming on Thursday March 9 for those who have
signed up to see one.
*Kindergarten

will visit MHS to watch the “Singing in the Rain,” play on March 10 at 9:15!
Please fill out your permission slip and return it to school ASAP!
*The
Woodbury Dance Company will visit our school on March 14 at 2:00.
*Our
school Literacy Awareness night is scheduled for March 16 at 6!
*Third
Term ends March 17! This is the day our Book Report Project is due!
*There
will be a Day Between The Quarters on Mon. March 20.
*There
will be a Character Assembly March 23.
*The
Maturation Program will be March 29 at 1:00.

School Science Fair is March 30!

Choose Kind
We have just completed the book Wonder. The students have taken a pledge to be responsible for kindness towards others.
Egyptian Inspired Art
It has been a wonderful couple of months in 6th grade! We haven't had the chance to post pictures of projects for a while, but here is our Egyptian Art projects inspired by the ancient civilization itself!

organizing writing. This month we are writing a Christmas Story for the town
newspaper. The genre of this story is a Narrative and requires students to
complete a sequence chart to organize their writing. All narrative stories will
be graded using Utah Compose, and the best parts of each story will be combined
with the help of Mrs. Miller into one story that will be published in the
December newspaper. Please watch for this, so you can read our combined story!
We are also working on a group writing project to practice expository essay
writing.
Language

are will be practicing our school Christmas program throughout the month. The
Christmas Program will be held on Dec. 19 with a Matinee at 1 and a night
performance at 7. Our program will be held at the MHS gym.
*Winter
Vacation will be Dec. 23-Jan 2. School will resume Tuesday Jan. 3.
*Second
Quarter will end Jan. 13.
*Spotlight:
Emily S 12/9, Corbin C. 12/31, Mattie H. 12/31, Alyssa S 6/20. (I will send
home more information when it is your student’s turn to be spotlighted in
class!)
