Curriculum

Math:  Mr. Barnes will be working on Envision Math Topics, Math Fact All Stars, Aleks Math, and the Math Skill Tests to check for student growth.

Spelling/Vocabulary: Spelling and vocabulary lists will be given for each FULL week this month. I will make an adjustment for Spring Break! Spelling Tests will usually be every Friday. We will correct ALL spelling work in class on Thursday, so students need to be prepared with the assignment done! Students have access to their spelling lists located in the SCHOOL TO HOME section on their Wonders Web site (connect ed)! They need to be STUDYING THE WORDS BEFORE FRIDAY TESTS!

Reading: We will be reading the basal and working on fluency, comprehension, text structure and text analysis. Remember that each Wednesday is BASAL HOMEWORK NIGHT! Students need to bring their basal/Chrome Book home to reread the story and have a parent sign on their reading record.  Make sure your student is doing 20 min of reading Sun-Thurs with a parent signature on their reading record sheet.

*Each week, students who complete their reading with 5 parent signatures, turned in ON TIME, will receive 1 Read to Ride ticket for the end of the year bike drawing.   

Writing: We will practice the writing process, the six +1 traits of writing, and language arts will be integrated into this subject. We will also continue to practice the Four Square Method of organizing writing. We are now reviewing Expository and Argumentative Writing for the upcoming SAGE test!

Announcements

* Students are expected to earn 60 AR points throughout the course of this year.  To meet this goal, students must read a total of 15 points per term! Points for reading are entered into the students reading grade for that term! They need to be reading!

*The District Spelling Bee is Tuesday March 8! Good Luck Spellers!

*The 4^th Grade Utah History Program is scheduled for March 17 at Beaver High School at 7:15.

*The Fifth Grade Hope of America Program is scheduled for March 17 at Beaver High School at 6:00.

*Spring Pictures will be March 18.

*There will be a Spy Hop Assembly on March 23.

*Third Quarter ends March 24! GRADES WILL BE COMING!

*The Day Between Quarters will be March 25! NO School for students on this day!

*Spring Vacation will be March 28, 29, and 30! NO School on these days!

*The PRO Assembly for third term will be March 31 at 2:15.

*There will be a Character Ed Assembly on March 24 at 2:15.

*There will be a Clark Planetarium Assembly on April 4.

*THE SCIENCE FAIR WILL BE APRIL 5!

We will also begin reviewing for the Writing part of the SAGE test, which is coming soon!

*Valentine Cookie Grams are available to purchase at the office for $1!

*We will have a class Valentine’s Day Party on Friday Feb. 12! Students need to bring a decorated Valentine box along with Valentine’s for each member of their class! I have attached class lists, so students can address their Valentines!

*There will be an Early Out Professional Development Day on Feb. 5. Students will dismiss school at 12:00 on that day!

*President’s Day is Feb. 15. NO SCHOOL on this day!

*Mrs. George will be back in the classroom on Feb. 16!

*Kindergarten Registration will be held Tues. Feb. 16 at 9:00 a.m.

*There will be a Character Ed Assembly on Feb. 25 at 2:15

*SEP Conferences are scheduled for March 2! More information will be coming as this date approaches!

Winter Art and Writing!

 

The 6th grade students have been working on a winter silhouette art and a fun Christmas writing project that was featured in our community newspaper! The students showed great effort and creativity to get this writing published! A special thanks goes to Mrs. Miller for taking the time to review, edit, and publish the narrative! Well done everyone!

*There will be a Character Ed Assembly on Jan. 28!

*The school Spelling Bee will be Feb. 3. We will be having a class spelling bee earlier this month to determine our class’s TOP spellers! Good Luck to all! More information and a spelling bee list will be coming soon!

We will also continue to practice the Four Square Method of organizing writing. We are working on Christmas stories for the county newspaper and an essay writing contest! In addition, I plan to begin teaching argumentative

 writing as soon as these two previous assignments have been completed.

*On Dec. 3, the students will be watching Sherlock Holmes at Milford High school.

*Dec. 9-11 the Booster Club will be doing a Santa’s Workshop from 3-5.

*We will be practicing our parts and songs for the Christmas program ALL month!

*We will have a character ed assembly on Dec. 17.

*The school Christmas Program is on Dec. 21! There will be a matinee performance at 1:00 and a night performance at 7:15. Best school dress is appropriate for 6^th graders to wear unless your part calls for a specific costume.

*Winter holiday will be Dec. 24 – Jan. 1. School will resume Monday Jan. 4.

*Just a heads up that 2^nd term will end Jan. 15. Students will need 15 AR points by the end of the term for a total of 30 points! Keep READING and keep up on ALL assignments!
