Missing Assignments!

Just a reminder to check with your student to make sure they are turning in ALL assignments each week! Every Friday, students need to turn in spelling and vocabulary practice sheets and be prepared to take a test on each set of words, paragraph of the week (done with neatness and proper spelling and grammar), Fluency timings with a summary on the back, and a reading summary on the gold planner sheet for each day of the school week! Math and reading comprehension assignments are also given throughout the week. As always class time is provided, but it is the responsibility of the students to be prepared to correct or turn in assignments on time! I am missing SEVERAL assignments from last week 9/3-9/6. Please ask to see your student's gold planner sheet to ensure that they have done each assignment. Sign and return the planner sheets each Friday! If you have any questions or concerns, please contract me! I am happy to help!

Fraction Review With Pattern Blocks!

*For this lesson, we practiced creating an artistic shape using pattern blocks. Each block is worth a specific fraction: Hexagon: 1 whole, Trapezoid: 1/2, Parallelogram: 1/3, and Equilateral Triangle: 1/6.

*Students added their fraction pictures, practicing finding common denominator, and changing their answer from a mixed number to an improper fraction. Super job 5/6 graders!

Weekly Planner Change

I am making one change on our Weekly Homework Planner (gold sheet). I would like the fourth reading day (Wednesday) to be a required Basal reading day. I would like the students to bring their Basal home that evening and review/reread the assigned story for that week. This will help with fluency and good comprehension. It will also give students a chance to view the text one more time, before we have the test on Fridays. Make sure to do a summary on the planner sheet using the Basal story. This will begin today (9/2), so students will be required to read their Basal tomorrow night for reading. Students who show good work ethic may be able to complete this reading during out splits in class.
Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!
